Gerrard Newrick artworks

Gerrard Newrick was born in Cheltenham, England in 1970. He has lived, worked and travelled all over Europe, Africa and Asia before settling in Asturias in northern Spain with his wife and family in 2008.
Gerrard is a self taught artist who is inspired by the architecture and structure of the villages, towns and cities of Spain. The apparently organic sprawl of buildings, streets and cities holds an endless fascination for him in their beauty, irregularity and decay and he creates, with ink and watercolour wash, everyday scenes of urban Spanish life.

Pitu

The Pitu de Caleya is a giant, free range chicken that is bred in Asturias in the north of Spain. It is the basis of a famous dish cooked in the local cider and it is also a prized and handsome bird that many proud Asturians keep in their gardens. Adopted Asturian and artist, Henry Iles has created this drawing based on an old engraving of the Pitu, for a range of pastel coloured tableware.

Aylsa McHugh

About the artist

Aylsa McHugh lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. In 2002 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. Aylsa has exhibited in Melbourne, Sydney, Western Australia, London and Japan and her work is held in private collections internationally. Her practice incorporates a variety of media and draws from a wide range of influences including architecture, modernism, sculpture, fashion, film and urbanisation. Most recently she has been utilising collage, appropriating images found in magazines and books to create unsettling and elegant juxtapositions. These assemblages are compelling and perverse, disjointed and harmonious, a celebration of the uncanny and strangely beautiful.

Art works

Aylsa is interested in how recontextualizing and combining found imagery creates ambiguous interpretations. Her recent work sees her pairing seemingly unrelated subject matter to create new and divergent readings.

Zooh is reproducing a series of 8 of Aylsa McHugh’s portraits in various functional pieces.

Maurizio Anzeri

The Maurizio Anzeri collection reproduces the art of British Italian Artist, Maurizio Anzeri, whose trademark work is embroidering found photographs. The collection is a series of high quality functional pieces that can also be mounted and displayed as pieces of art in their own right. We loved working with Maurizio to produce pieces that all lovers of his art can afford.

Xato

We are excited to bring some work by British artist, Xato to the table. He works using recycled materials found in skips and fly tipped around the city of Leeds.

We have produced eight glass stands available individually or as a set that can be used as place mats, platters for serving food or as trivets to protect your table from hot dishes and pans. The stands measure 300mm, are made of specially toughened recycled glass, are heatproof to 180 degrees and have frictionless feet.

Pescao

Pescao is Asturian for fish. In Asturias we are spoilt by a wealth of seafood that comes in from the many fishing villages that dot the coastline. The Pescao range is inspired by 19th century engravings of fish caught in Asturias, Sardines (Sardinas), Turbot (Gallo) and Flounder (Solla) and brought to life in a riot of colours for tableware and textiles.

Monkey

We’ve always been fascinated by monkeys and have collected monkey memorabilia for as long as I can remember. Monkeys featured regularly in Victorian art and were fashionable Victorian pets. ZOOH commissioned Spanish based British artist, Holly Alp to paint this beautiful Victorian style monkey. I wanted to take our monkey out of stuffy Victorian Britain and give him a bright environment to frolic in. I hope you love our Monkey range as much as I do.
